The Salem Ape Mountain
Visitors of the Salem Ape Mountain (“Affenberg”) tend to get on pretty well with the cheeky Barbary apes that live there. If you choose to walk through this 20 hectare-large area of woodland, you will most definitely encounter some of the apes that freely wander about here - and they will most definitely enjoy it if you give them some of the special food that is provided free of charge. However, it is not only apes that are local to this generous site - fallow deer can also be spotted here. And, of course, one should not forget the large white stork breeding colony which can also be found here. More that 20 aeries tower over the local pub (“Affenbergschenke”) and other surrounding buildings. If you decide to have lunch here you will see, hear and experience these large birds at close range.
